When you sign up as a host, you’ll get the opportunity to run an experience at GlitchCon 2017. You’ll have a chance to stage an exciting event, share your expertise, or call upon the expertise of others. Whether you’re a seasoned veteran or an enthusiastic newcomer, we’d love to hear your idea.

SESSION TRACKS

This year, we’re doing things a little differently and concentrating sessions around Tracks. Tracks are focused areas that provide greater visibility and accessibility to specific interests within the digital games industry.  Potential content submissions should fit within one of the below eight tracks. Please note that submissions do not need to adhere to the example topics, these are just to give you a starting point for your imagination!

Alternate Realities

Alternate Realities are pushing immersive experiences to new heights.  This Track discusses what this relatively new technology means for games today and what it might lead to in the future.

Example session topics:

  • Prototyping for Mixed Reality Games
  • Advancements in Artificial Intelligence for Virtual Reality
  • Designing HUDs in Virtual Reality
  • The Secrets Behind Augmented Reality

Art

The art track explores methods of creating and producing game art, animations, and effects. Share tricks of the trade from concepting methods to post-production processes.

Example session topics:

  • Storytelling through Cinematics
  • Principles of Visual Effects
  • Creating Art with Math
  • Character Creation Techniques
  • Optimizing Effects and Shaders

Audio

The Audio Track focuses on exploring the importance of sound when creating memorable experiences. Share your knowledge from sound effects to soundtracks and everything in between.

Example session topics:

  • Advice for Remixing Video Game Music
  • Essential Tools for a Home Studio
  • What Audio Professionals Need to Know in Unity
  • How to Pitch Your Music to Indie Devs

Business

The Business Track explores everything from marketing an indie game and production of a AAA title, to the nuts and bolts of the business side of game development and how it can be improved.

Example session topics:

  • A Review of Game Analytics Platforms
  • Preparing a Game for Foreign Markets
  • Turning a Game Into a Business
  • How Brand Licensing Deals Work
  • How to Market Your Game on an Indie Budget.

Design

Building fun and immersive experiences requires taking small ideas and turning them into big moments of a game. The design track explores the theories behind game design and its applications in today’s games.

Example session topics:

  • Perfecting the Use of “Randomness” in Game Play
  • Level Design in 15 Slides
  • Rewarding Reward Systems
  • Out on a Limb: Exploring Dialogue Trees in Narrative Design

Impact

The Impact track welcomes submissions about the creation and study of games that make a difference, addressing everything from education and humanitarian issues to saving the world through play.

  • Impact of Play on Fundraising
  • Teaching STEM with Games
  • The Economics Behind Eve Online
  • Developing Games to Treat Mental Illnesses

Play

The Play Track is all about you, the Player, and how you interact with your favorite games, content creators, and the community!

  • Hacks and Mods
  • Speedrunning Techniques
  • User Playtesting with Game Makers
  • Tournaments and Challenges

Programming

The Programming Track focuses on any and all things programming related to game development.

Example session topics:

  • How to Program for Projectiles
  • Programming for Unreal vs Unity
  • Reactive Programming in Games
  • Making an Effective Tutorial
  • Optimizing Your Game
